About Tommy Banks Tommy Banks is a multi-award-winning chef and one of the UK’s most innovative restaurateurs. Born and raised in the village of Oldstead in North Yorkshire, Tommy comes from a farming family and continues to draw inspiration from the land his family has farmed for generations. He holds two Michelin stars across his restaurants — The Black Swan at Oldstead and Roots in York — and has also been awarded a Michelin Green Star in recognition of his commitment to sustainable gastronomy. In addition to his restaurants, Tommy oversees a pub, a premium food box business and a canned wine brand. A familiar face on television, Tommy is a veteran judge on BBC’s The Great British Menu, having previously won the competition in 2016, 2017 and 2020.
